The D. E. Shaw group seeks an accomplished leader to join its Enterprise Operations team as the Head of Facilities, based in New York. This individual will oversee facilities operations across the firm’s global portfolio, managing an established team and multiple third-party providers and contractors responsible for space maintenance, cleaning, mail service, and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing) infrastructure, as well as project management, construction and procurement. Lead and develop the global facilities team, with responsibility for all aspects of facilities operations across the firm’s portfolio, as well as oversee and manage the firm’s procurement department.
Plan, organize, and manage the day-to-day operations and long-term reliability of facilities, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical infrastructure, custodial services, and core building systems, while also setting strategy and governance for procurement activities to ensure efficient, compliant, and cost-effective sourcing across the organization.
Oversee construction and facilities projects, managing third-party vendors and an integrated facilities management (IFM) provider to ensure performance meets the firm’s high standards. Working closely with the Workplace & Design team, you will lead construction project management, procurement, and execution. Your responsibilities include contract negotiation, vendor performance management, and setting clear expectations for service delivery across facilities and procurement functions.
Design, implement, and monitor preventive maintenance programs and facility inspection processes, including physical maintenance and supplemental HVAC systems. You will also develop, recommend, and administer facilities and procurement policies, procedures, and operating standards, measuring outcomes and making data-driven adjustments to improve service quality, efficiency, and customer experience.
Guide operational decisions and long-term infrastructure planning while driving continuous improvement in comfort, reliability, and workplace quality.
Partner with the Systems team to elevate facilities management, physical security, and procurement systems, ensuring they support operational excellence, transparency, and compliance requirements.
Establish and administer processes to ensure ongoing regulatory, safety, and operational compliance across facilities and procurement activities. Through the use of data and analytics, you will identify trends, generate strategic insights, and implement efficiencies that optimize departmental performance, while coordinating and supervising building operations, maintenance, repairs, improvements, custodial services, and procurement operations in a cost-effective and well-prioritized manner.
