        The D. E. Shaw group seeks an accomplished leader to join its Enterprise Operations team as the head of facilities. This individual will oversee facilities operations across the firm’s global portfolio, managing an established team and third-party providers responsible for building operations, space maintenance, construction, and procurement.         What you’ll do day-to-day

        • Lead and develop the global facilities team with responsibility for all aspects of facilities operations across the firm’s portfolio, while overseeing the procurement department and setting strategy, governance, and standards to ensure efficient, compliant, and cost-effective sourcing.  
        • Plan, organize, and manage day-to-day operations and long-term facilities reliability, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical infrastructure, custodial services, and core building systems, while guiding operational decisions and long-term infrastructure planning to enhance comfort, reliability, and workplace quality.  
        • Oversee construction and facilities projects alongside the Workplace & Design team, leading project management, procurement, contract negotiation, execution, and managing third-party vendors and an integrated facilities management (IFM) provider to ensure performance meets the firm’s high standards.
        • Design, implement, and monitor preventive maintenance programs and facility inspection processes, including physical maintenance and HVAC systems.
        • Develop, recommend, and administer facilities and procurement policies, procedures, and operating standards, establishing processes that ensure ongoing regulatory, safety, and operational compliance across all activities.
        • Partner with the Systems and Security teams to elevate facilities management, physical security, and procurement systems, leveraging data and analytics to identify trends, generate strategic insights, and optimize departmental performance, cost, and service delivery. 

        Who we’re looking for

        • A bachelor’s degree is required, ideally in engineering, facilities management, or a related technical field.
        • At least ten years of progressive experience in facilities operations, with demonstrated success leading teams and third-party vendors in a global context.
        • A minimum of five years of experience with mechanical systems with a demonstrated track record of technical expertise in HVAC and building control systems; experience managing or operating additional hardware infrastructure or Internet of Things (IoT) is a decided advantage.
        • Experience setting and upholding best-in-class standards for workplace comfort and infrastructure.
        • The expected annual base salary for this position is $200,000 to $300,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
