        New York

The D. E. Shaw group seeks a voice and video engineer to join its Systems team. This team oversees the firm’s global voice and video infrastructure, including calling platforms, conference room technology, hardware deployments, and technical event support. The position offers the opportunity to lead the Unified Communications (UC) Voice function, drive the firm’s transition to cloud-based calling, and collaborate closely with colleagues throughout the firm.

        What you’ll do day-to-day

        • Oversee and engineer the firm’s voice and calling infrastructure, with a focus on advancing the migration from on-premises to cloud-based platforms.
        • Provide day-to-day operational support and ongoing maintenance for UC services, ensuring reliability and performance.
        • Partner with global teams to evaluate, plan, and execute the transition to cloud calling, including architectural assessments and migration activities.
        • Support and enhance conferencing solutions, including Webex, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams, and contribute to video infrastructure initiatives.
        • Develop and implement automation solutions for voice and video environments using scripting and API integrations.

        Who we’re looking for

        • A bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience.
        • At least seven years of experience in unified communications engineering or voice infrastructure.
        • Deep expertise in Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) administration, configuration, and troubleshooting, with hands-on experience in on-premises to cloud migration.
        • Proficiency with cloud calling platforms, preferably Cisco Webex Calling, and a keen understanding of the differences between on-premises and cloud voice architectures.
        • Solid working knowledge of conferencing platforms such as Webex, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams.
        • Advanced scripting skills in Python and experience with automation frameworks; familiarity with Cisco AXL and REST APIs for administration is highly desirable.
        • Well-developed understanding of SIP trunking, voice gateways, session border controllers, E911 compliance, and related voice infrastructure components.
        • Ability to collaborate effectively with global teams across time zones and work closely with cross-functional partners, including project management, events, and facilities.
        • Cisco Voice certifications (such as CCNP or CCIE Collaboration) are valuable but not required.
        • The expected annual base salary for this position is $160,000 to $200,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
