        Trader/Analyst

        Investment Analysis / Trading
        New York

The D. E. Shaw group seeks talented individuals to join as analysts or traders in its Fundamental Investing (e.g., Fundamental Equities, Credit Opportunities) or Trading (e.g., Macro, Energy, Convertibles, Asset-Backed Securities) groups. The firm manages more than $100 billion in investment and committed capital, and today more than half of deployed hedge fund capital is in discretionary investing strategies. Investment analysts and traders take on meaningful responsibility early on, putting original ideas to work in global markets and learning alongside an accomplished team, with the mentorship and resources to grow into seasoned investment professionals.

        What you’ll do day-to-day

        • Analysts: Research, analyze, and conduct due diligence on specific companies and sectors to inform fundamental investments, including primary research such as management meetings, expert calls, and novel data analyses.
        • Traders: Monitor markets and positions, analyze market events, and use a range of technological platforms to make qualitative decisions based on your analyses.
        • Leverage the firm's proprietary data and technology tools to build and pressure-test investment hypotheses.
        • Analyze market data and fundamentals to generate insights that support investment decisions.
        • Contribute to investment theses, presentations, and your team's idea generation.
        • Collaborate with colleagues to monitor positions, assess market events, and manage risk exposures.

        What we’re looking for

        • A bachelor's degree and up to four years of relevant experience (such as banking, equity research, private equity, trading, or other buy-side roles or internships).
        • A passion for investing or trading, a demonstrated aptitude for quantitative analysis, and an instinct for independent thinking.
        • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and collaborate effectively within a team environment.
        • Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to rigorously analyze new investment ideas.
        • Ability to generate original, orthogonal insights and synthesize information from a wide range of sources into clear, persuasive messages, supported by data and quantitative analysis.
        • Comfort with data and an interest in applying AI-enabled tools to research and idea generation.
        • The expected annual base salary for this position is $275,000 to $300,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
