Senior Product Manager – Legal Technology

        Technology
        New York

The D. E. Shaw group seeks a talented product manager to join its Legal Technology team to transform how the firm's attorneys find information, refine documents, and use AI to strengthen the quality and speed of their work. The role offers a high-impact opportunity to work at the intersection of product delivery, legal operations, and applied technology, with exposure to complex, business-critical problems and close partnership with legal, engineering, and design colleagues across the firm.

        What you’ll do day-to-day

        • Own the backlog for multiple products across the team's portfolio of attorney-facing tools and the systems that support them, keeping work prioritized, well defined, and ready for engineering.
        • Partner with attorneys and other legal professionals to understand how they work, identify pain points, clarify priorities, and translate business needs into clear product requirements.
        • Drive products through the full lifecycle, from discovery and prioritization through launch and iteration.
        • Collaborate closely with engineers to shape technically complex products, including identifying where the latest techniques in AI-powered capabilities, such as semantic search, knowledge retrieval, and document processing, can drive business results for our users.
        • Bring structure to complex, cross-functional efforts by defining scope, dependencies, timelines, and success metrics, while keeping stakeholders informed with clear updates on progress, decisions, and tradeoffs.

        What we’re looking for

        • A bachelor's degree or higher and five to ten years of relevant product management experience, with demonstrated experience delivering enterprise software.
        • Experience taking products through the full lifecycle, from discovery through launch and iteration, and a track record of getting things done: breaking down ambiguous problems, managing details, and following work through to completion.
        • Experience partnering closely with software developers on complex products, and technical fluency to discuss how platform design choices affect user-facing features.
        • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to solve open-ended problems.
        • Experience working in the legal domain or building legal technology, such as contract lifecycle management or document management systems, is helpful but not required.
        • Familiarity with content repositories, data processing pipelines, metadata modeling, or retrieval systems is a plus.
        • Exposure to AI-enabled product capabilities, including semantic search, knowledge retrieval, or agentic workflows, is a plus.
        • The expected annual base salary for this position is $175,000 to $250,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
