        Product Manager – Data Warehouse

        Human Capital
        New York

The D. E. Shaw group seeks a product manager to join its Human Capital Products team to support the ongoing development of data infrastructure that enables people analytics. This team manages technology that optimizes human capital processes and empowers the firm to make data-driven talent decisions. The role offers the chance to collaborate with analytics, technology, and human capital teams to deliver scalable, secure, and flexible business intelligence solutions, including leveraging generative AI to derive insights from unstructured data sources.

        What you’ll do day-to-day

        • Design efficient ETL transformations and model data schemas that transform stakeholder needs into well-structured, scalable data sets, paying close attention to data quality and integrity.
        • Help build the API layer that governs data access: centralizing business logic and enforcing permissions, while defining the contracts and boundary conditions to provide a consistent, reliable interface for downstream products and consumers.
        • Shape generative-AI capabilities that make data more accessible and unlock more sources of data, through natural-language querying, semantic search, and agentic workflows.
        • Partner with reporting, developer, and data scientist stakeholders to understand business needs, design technical solutions, and specify precise, clear requirements—anticipating edge cases up front.
        • Oversee development, testing, and rollout across the data infrastructure layers.
        • Own stakeholder relationships and share responsibility for sprint planning, backlog grooming, and providing operational support for the existing data product.
        • Gain a deep, detailed understanding of the proprietary systems and third-party products that make up the firm's human capital systems landscape.

        What we’re looking for

        • A bachelor’s degree or higher and four to eight years of relevant experience in product management, along with experience designing, implementing, and scaling data and analytics products.
        • Keen data analysis and transformation skills, including proficiency with Excel, SQL, and Python.
        • Experience working directly with data engineers, data scientists, and software developers on ETL design, business intelligence infrastructure, or API specifications.
        • Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain technical ideas to a non-technical audience, along with organizational skills, a customer service mindset, and quick problem-solving abilities.
        • Attention to detail, effective teamwork, project ownership, and the ability to exercise discretion with confidential information.
        • Familiarity with best practices and functional expertise in data modeling, data architecture, and data infrastructure is preferred.
        • Experience with generative AI infrastructure and techniques—such as vector databases, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), semantic search, agentic workflows, and natural-language querying of data—is a plus.
        • The expected annual base salary for this position is $185,000 to $250,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
