        General Manager: Waypoint

        Venture Studio – Portfolio
        New York

Waypoint Valuations, a startup venture launching out of the D. E. Shaw group, is currently seeking a full-time General Manager as a founding employee. Waypoint aims to fill a significant market need by helping business owners understand and enhance the value of their companies as they plan for transition or succession. The company offers a suite of services—including business valuations, exit-readiness planning, and support in preparing for strategic transactions—delivered through a streamlined, scalable operating model built for efficiency and strong unit economics. This role is with Waypoint, not with the D. E. Shaw group. As a portfolio company of the D. E. Shaw group’s venture studio, DESCOvery, Waypoint benefits from the firm’s entrepreneurial experience and industry connectivity. Please note that Waypoint will be reviewing all applications and making hiring decisions independently of the D. E. Shaw group.

        What you’ll do day-to-day

As General Manager for Waypoint Valuations, you will lead a new venture looking to transform how business owners understand and unlock the value of their companies. You will set the vision and drive strategies to fuel revenue growth, profitability, and market leadership. You’ll build and scale strategic partnerships with brokers, M&A advisors, lenders, and other key players—owning the go-to-market strategy and achieving efficient client acquisition and demand generation.

You will oversee service delivery, ensuring an exceptional client experience and operational efficiency. You will recruit and lead a small, high-performing team, building a culture of innovation, accountability, and customer focus. Your role will be pivotal in shaping the product and service roadmap—expanding Waypoint’s offering and positioning the company for scalable, durable growth.

        Who we’re looking for

        • A bachelor’s degree or higher is required.
        • Demonstrated success in sales, partnerships, and relationship-driven growth. Experience building relationships with brokers, lenders, M&A advisors, or other financial services intermediaries is preferred.
        • Proven ability to develop and execute go-to-market strategies that drive client acquisition and revenue growth.
        • Experience leading small teams or entrepreneurial business units.
        • Comfort operating in an AI-native, tech-enabled services environment; prior exposure to fintech or professional services technology is a plus.
        • An entrepreneurial thinker who isn’t afraid to think outside the box and continuously iterate.
        • The expected annual base salary for this position is $200K to $275K, plus year-end bonuses and other incentives. The role includes comprehensive benefits, including health and dental. This is a unique opportunity to lead a new company with a focus on innovation and market leadership in the SMB space.
