AI and DevOps Engineer – Human Capital

        Human Capital
        New York

The D. E. Shaw group seeks an AI and DevOps engineer to join its Human Capital Generative AI (HC GAI) team, which designs, builds, and operates generative AI solutions that transform how the firm attracts, assesses, develops, and retains talent. Working at the intersection of people strategy, product design, and emerging AI capabilities, the team delivers tools for both technical and non-technical users across the firm. This role serves as the operational backbone for HC GAI, keeping the team's shared data and AI infrastructure healthy and reliable, from back-end pipelines to developer tooling and user-facing reporting.

        What you’ll do day-to-day

        • Build, deploy, and maintain the HC GAI team's automated reporting products and dashboards, primarily in Python, along with the ETL pipelines and people-analytics data infrastructure behind them.
        • Manage release and testing for people-analytics tooling and data pipelines, keep repositories healthy (CI checks, dependency updates), and onboard new developers.
        • Ensure the reliability of HC GAI's shared infrastructure and applications by setting up monitoring and alerting, tracking usage, and leading incident response.
        • Administer prompt versioning and change control for AI systems, including first-line investigation of feature issues.
        • Run AI model evaluations, carry out migrations as models are updated or retired, and manage query logging and usage analytics with appropriate privacy safeguards.
        • Maintain the team's Claude skills and plugins for both technical and non-technical users.

        What we’re looking for

        • A bachelor's degree in a technical field and at least three years of relevant experience in DevOps, data engineering, or AI operations.
        • Fluency in Python, including for data transformation and analysis, and hands-on experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines.
        • Demonstrated experience managing deployment pipelines, environment setup, and developer onboarding, along with prompt management and troubleshooting in AI or machine learning environments.
        • An affinity for data wrangling and finding the perfect way to visualize data for a senior audience; people-analytics experience is preferred.
        • Proven ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments, see how small details impact the bigger picture, and drive work forward across cross-functional dependencies.
        • Excellent organizational and communication skills, along with the ability to partner with technical leads, support non-technical users, and exercise extreme discretion with confidential information.
        • The expected annual base salary for this position is $150,000 to $200,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
