        Join our D. E. Shaw COO Group in New York. The D. E. Shaw group seeks creative, critical thinkers with demonstrated analytical, communication, and project leadership skills to join its COO Group. These individuals will work with senior members of the team and across functions to address some of the most important strategic challenges facing the firm. These roles offer an opportunity to provide input on the firm’s strategy and operations in a collegial working environment, as well as considerable potential for professional growth.

        What you’ll do day-to-day

        • Set direction for and synthesize research and analysis work on economic, technology, policy, and operational issues to inform senior leadership decision-making, and conduct targeted analysis.
        • Assess, organize, and ensure alignment on key strategic priorities and initiatives, plan and coordinate execution details, and oversee execution.
        • Design, implement, and manage governance processes for information flow to and from senior leadership, review materials for relevance and clarity, and recommend potential adjustments to prioritization and resourcing as appropriate based on data and stakeholder input.
        • Prepare meeting materials in alignment with strategic goals, document discussions and outcomes, and ensure follow-through on agreed actions.
        • Work with communications teams and senior leadership to formulate and implement initiatives that improve organizational alignment and visibility on strategic goals.
        • Interview and evaluate candidates for the COO Group and related hiring pipelines.

        What we’re looking for

        • A bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, financial engineering, or a related field of study.
        • Four years of experience in the following: mathematical models; project and program management across functions; distilling economic analysis into written communications; distilling reporting into written communications; and synthesizing and summarizing competitive benchmarking data.
        • The annual base salary for this position is $188,677- $255,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
