        Vendor Manager – Human Capital

        Human Capital
        New York

The D. E. Shaw group seeks a talented and highly motivated vendor manager to join its Human Capital (HC) Products team to help drive the development and implementation of the firm’s evolving people systems. The HC Products team manages technology that optimizes HC processes, explores ways to thoughtfully integrate AI, and empowers the firm to make data-driven talent decisions. This role offers opportunities to partner with technology and HC teams to manage contracts and vendor relationships in support of scalable, secure, and flexible solutions—leveraging a combination of proprietary systems and third-party products—in an engaging and collegial working environment.

        What you’ll do day-to-day

        • Manage HC’s contracts and relationships with technology and service providers.
        • Oversee the full vendor management lifecycle, including reviewing, negotiating, and managing contracts with major HC product vendors (e.g., Workday, learning content providers, perks vendors) as well as service providers (e.g., contract UX designers).
        • Work closely with HC functional leads and our Legal team to review ongoing contracts, plan for contract renewals or disengagements, oversee relationships and escalations with vendors, and identify potential efficiency gains and/or cost savings for the department.
        • Partner with senior HC leadership and groups outside the department to ensure successful collaboration across the firm.

        Who we’re looking for

        • A bachelor’s degree is required, along with seven to ten years of relevant experience managing vendor relationships and contracts.
        • Experience negotiating the financial and legal terms of a vendor contract is required.
        • Candidates should have well-developed written and verbal communication skills, along with keen attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
        • Proven leadership, judgment, and organizational skills are also essential, as is the ability to adapt to evolving technology needs.
        • Prior experience in human capital or financial services is beneficial but not required. Experience as an HC tech industry analyst or as a product manager or solutions consultant for a software vendor is also a plus.
        • The expected annual base salary for this position is $175,000 to $220,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.

The applicable annual base salary or hourly rate paid to a successful applicant will be determined based on multiple factors, including without limitation the nature and extent of prior experience and educational background.
