Start-Up Ventures: Head of Valuation at Weld Valuations

        Venture Studio – Portfolio
        New York

Weld Valuations, a startup venture launching out of the D. E. Shaw group, seeks a full-time valuation analyst to join its founding team. Weld is dedicated to helping small business owners understand and enhance the value of their companies as they plan for transition or succession, offering services such as business valuations, exit-readiness planning, and support for strategic transactions through a streamlined, tech-enabled model. As a portfolio company of the D. E. Shaw group’s venture studio, Weld benefits from the firm’s entrepreneurial experience and industry connectivity; however, all application review and hiring decisions will be managed independently by Weld. This role offers an opportunity to join as the founding valuation leader, with a clear path to build and manage a team as Weld scales.

        What you’ll do day-to-day

        • Transform how business owners understand and unlock the value of their business.
        • Collaborate with leadership to refine methodologies, enhance the client experience, and contribute to Weld’s go-to-market strategy.
        • Improve how valuations are delivered—leveraging technology, automation, and data to make the process more insightful and scalable.
        • Oversee and perform all valuation work while also influencing the broader product and service roadmap.
        • Build and lead Weld’s valuation team—hiring, training, and developing analysts as the company grows.
        • Help establish the framework, standards, and operating model for how future valuation analysts work within Weld’s technology platform.

        Who we’re looking for

        • A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related discipline is required; an advanced degree (MBA, MSF) is a plus.
        • A valuation certification such as ASA or CVA is required.
        • Five years of relevant work experience and at least two to five years of experience performing lower market valuations, financial modeling, or related analysis.
        • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex analyses into clear insights for clients.
        • An entrepreneurial and creative mindset, with an interest in strategy, client engagement, and building scalable processes, including helping lay the foundation for a scalable analyst organization.
        • Comfort operating in a tech-enabled, AI-native environment, and enthusiasm for helping shape new tools and improving design and delivery of valuations across different audiences.
        • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and excel in an early-stage, high-accountability environment, with a focus on driving organizational growth and success.
        • Experience managing or mentoring analysts or junior team members is a plus, as this role will evolve into a leadership position overseeing a growing valuation team.
        • The expected annual base salary for this position is $150,000 to $170,000. There will be additional compensation in the form of earned commissions.
