        Join our D. E. Shaw Investment Management (“DESIM”) group in New York The D. E. Shaw group seeks talented software developers to join its D. E. Shaw Investment Management (“DESIM”) group. Technology is integral to virtually everything our firm does, and members of our technical staff collaborate on challenging problems that directly impact the firm’s continued success by utilizing their analytical, mathematical, and software design skills, as well as some of the most advanced computing resources in the world. The DESIM group aims to identify market inefficiencies inside and across various asset classes and construct optimal portfolios to maximize utility for our investors. This role offers the opportunity to be part of a collaborative, engaging, and inclusive working environment.

        What you’ll do day-to-day

        You’ll research, build, deploy, and maintain distributed real-time software to support trading, modeling, front-office analytics, and operations. You’ll develop software using Python, Perl, and C++, as well as guide and oversee software projects performed by junior team members. You’ll leverage object-oriented design methodologies, design patterns, and other software best practices. You’ll interface with non-proprietary systems, including operating systems, databases, and real-time data feeds, as well as systems from counterparties. You’ll perform mathematical and quantitative analyses, including the application of numerical techniques to develop statistical models for our computerized financial trading strategies.

        Who we’re looking for

        • A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field of study is required.
        • Three years of experience in the following is required: programming in Python, Perl, and C++; object-oriented and functional programming; software design patterns; debugging software in a UNIX environment; parallel computing frameworks including OpenMP or MPI; and mathematical optimization.
        • Applicants who pass initial screening will be required to complete and pass a CodeSignal coding assessment, which tests for the ability to solve algorithmic problems.
        • The annual base salary for this position is $225,000 - $275,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes substantial variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, a sign-on bonus, a relocation bonus, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
