        The D. E. Shaw group seeks a skilled communicator to join its External Communications (ExComms) team. Members of ExComms advance a range of strategic communications initiatives to support the firm’s commercial and talent goals, engage with stakeholders on storytelling efforts, and help shape the firm’s external voice. This position offers the chance to lead collaborative projects, surface and tell compelling stories across channels and content types, and contribute to high-impact commercial marketing efforts in an engaging and inclusive work environment.

        What you’ll do day-to-day

        • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners across Recruiting, ExComms, Internal Communications, and investing and technology functions to help create and execute high-impact communications.
        • Develop strategy and messaging to support branding and marketing initiatives.
        • Contribute to creative marketing projects and campaigns such as video scripts, social media posts, conference materials, recruiting communications, and other firmwide storytelling materials.
        • Provide high-touch client service to business units across the firm with bespoke messaging projects.
        • Help surface, conceptualize, and tell stories that appeal to technical and nontechnical audiences.
        • Support process management and creative brainstorming, from idea generation through execution.

        Who we’re looking for

        • A bachelor’s degree and a demonstrated record of academic and professional achievement are required, with two to four years of marketing or communications experience at a technology or investment firm or agency.
        • Exceptional communication and storytelling abilities, with impressive writing and creative skills, ideally demonstrated in technical or investment-focused environments.
        • Ability to synthesize complex technical and financial topic and tailor messaging for diverse audiences across various mediums.
        • Excellent organizational and project management skills, collaborative instincts, the ability to manage multiple projects, and keen attention to detail.
        • Intellectual curiosity around brand-building and a proactive approach to sourcing and executing new ideas.
        • The expected annual base salary for this position is $125,000 to $150,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
