        Join our Investor Relations (IR) team in New York The D. E. Shaw group seeks proactive, analytical, and resourceful individuals to join the Data team in its Investor Relations (IR) group. This team creates tools and reports that impact marketing and fundraising decisions. It also partners with stakeholders from groups across our organization in a collegial, dynamic, and inclusive working environment.

        What you’ll do day-to-day

        You’ll use Microsoft Dynamics, Python, HTML, JavaScript, data science packages, and business intelligence technologies to analyze client and engagement data to understand behavior and trends. You’ll present prospect and investor data in a cohesive aggregated framework. You’ll write and deliver reports to senior stakeholders with data-driven recommendations to support marketing efforts, client engagement and retention strategies, product development, and communication and branding initiatives. You’ll perform research and data analysis on both a historical and forward-looking basis. You’ll work with IR business stakeholders to identify problem points that data access or statistics could solve, then see the solution through to implementation. You’ll identify and implement solutions for data integrity, cleanliness, and modeling challenges. You’ll employ project management techniques and develop best practices for the team. You’ll work with developers to provide business insight on proposed technology solutions.

        Who we’re looking for

        • A bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics, statistics, data science, or a related field of study is required.
        • One year of experience with: Python programming for data wrangling and analysis, automation, and developing and testing tools; data analysis packages including pandas and NumPy; manipulating and visualizing structured and unstructured data to visualize business intelligence insights; Python visualization libraries including plotly and matplotlib; analyzing investor flows and interaction data; Microsoft Dynamics; log analysis and database management to analyze external content engagement; writing and optimizing queries for data extraction, transformation, and loading log files; apache logs, ElasticSearch, LogStash, and Kibana; statistical analysis and data science methods, including EDA, hypothesis testing, regression analysis, and handling missing and outlier data; using Microsoft Office Suite to write reports based on data analysis and research findings; and identifying requirements and delivering technology solutions to business stakeholders.
        • Must pass company’s standard pre-hire assessment test, which checks for data analysis and literacy, judgment to create commercially-viable solutions, and written communication abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.
        • The annual base salary for this position is $125,000 to $145,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
