        New York

The D. E. Shaw group seeks a highly analytical and entrepreneurial intern to join Cove, its private equity strategy focused on creating and scaling consolidation platforms. This individual will help underwrite and execute acquisitions and work closely with operators and management teams to turn collections of businesses into scalable platforms. The role sits at the intersection of investing, operational transformation, and technology-enabled platform development, and offers exposure to live deal making and private equity operational activity.

        What you’ll do day-to-day

        • Evaluate investment opportunities through financial modeling, market research, and industry analysis.
        • Support all phases of deal execution, including diligence, valuation, and structuring.
        • Contribute to thesis development, including identifying new opportunities and building supporting research.
        • Build and maintain detailed operating and LBO models to inform investment decisions.
        • Coordinate internal and external workstreams to move transactions and strategic initiatives forward.
        • Work closely with operating company leadership to track performance, evaluate growth initiatives, and support integration of acquisitions.
        • Help build the operating foundations that allow new platforms to scale, with a focus on identifying practical ways to use data, automation, and AI to improve internal and portfolio company operations.
        • Take ownership of a defined project or workstream with a real impact on the team’s investment activity.

        Who we’re looking for

        • Current undergraduates graduating in Fall 2027 or Spring 2028 with excellent academic performance; coursework in finance, economics, engineering, or related quantitative fields is preferred.
        • Prior internship or project experience in investment banking, private equity, consulting, corporate development, or a similarly rigorous analytical setting is a plus but not required.
        • Excellent financial modeling and valuation fundamentals, with exposure to or interest in building LBO and operating models.
        • Demonstrated ability to analyze businesses and industries, synthesize complex information, and form clear, independent perspectives.
        • Genuine interest in platform-building strategies that rely on both M&A and operational improvement.
        • High agency, keen judgment, and comfort working in a fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent workstreams.
        • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset, as you'll work directly with investment professionals, operators, and portfolio company leadership.
        • Interest or experience using AI, automation, data tools, or programming languages such as Python to improve analysis, workflows, or reporting.
        • The position offers a monthly base salary of $11,000, overtime pay, a sign-on bonus of $7,500, travel coverage to and from the internship, and choice of furnished summer housing or a $10,000 housing allowance. It also includes a $3,300 stipend for self-study materials and a $4,000 stipend for personal technology equipment. If you have any questions about the compensation, please ask one of our recruiters.
