        Cove Private Equity Associate

        Private Equity Platform
        New York

The D. E. Shaw group seeks a highly analytical and entrepreneurial associate to join Cove, its private equity strategy focused on creating and scaling consolidation platforms. The associate will help underwrite and execute acquisitions and work closely with operators and management teams to turn collections of businesses into scalable platforms. This role sits at the intersection of investing, operational transformation, and technology-enabled platform development and offers responsibility across the full platform life cycle—from thesis development to deal execution to managing growth initiatives.

        What you’ll do day-to-day

        • Evaluate investment opportunities through financial modeling, market research, and industry analysis.
        • Support all phases of deal execution, including diligence, valuation, structuring, negotiation support, and closing.
        • Support innovative thesis development in fragmented sectors.
        • Build and maintain detailed operating and LBO models to inform investment decisions.
        • Coordinate internal and external workstreams to move transactions and strategic initiatives forward.
        • Work closely with operating company leadership to track performance, evaluate growth initiatives, and support integration of acquisitions.
        • Help build the operating foundations that allow new platforms to scale, with a focus on identifying practical ways to use data, automation, and AI to improve internal and portfolio company operations.

        Who we’re looking for

        • A bachelor’s degree with an excellent academic record, along with one to three years of experience in investment banking, corporate development, strategy consulting, private equity, or a similarly rigorous analytical role.
        • Coursework in finance, economics, engineering, or related quantitative fields is preferred.
        • Excellent financial modeling and valuation skills, with experience building LBO and operating models.
        • Demonstrated ability to analyze businesses and industries, synthesize complex information, and form clear investment perspectives.
        • Genuine interest in platform-building strategies that rely on both M&A and operational improvement.
        • High agency, keen judgment, and comfort working in a fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent workstreams.
        • Excellent communication and presentation skills, along with a collaborative mindset to build solid working relationships with investment professionals, operators, and portfolio company leadership.
        • Experience using AI, automation, data tools, or programming languages such as Python to improve analysis, workflows, or reporting.
        • The expected annual base salary for this position is $150,000 to $200,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
