AI Product Manager – Discretionary Technology

        Quantitative Strategies
        New York

The D. E. Shaw group seeks an entrepreneurial product manager to join its Discretionary Technology team, focusing on conceiving, developing, and launching AI-driven products that support the firm’s discretionary investment teams. The product manager will lead initiatives that embed generative AI into critical workflows for trading, research, and portfolio management. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of technology, finance, and innovation, collaborating closely with investment professionals and developers to build high-impact, cutting-edge tools in an intellectually rigorous environment.

        What you’ll do day-to-day

        • Partner with end users, software developers, designers, and business leaders from multiple investment teams to define and launch AI-enabled products that drive business goals and efficiency.
        • Drive AI discovery and experimentation to clarify ambiguous problems and identify high-impact opportunities for AI-enabled solutions.
        • Align AI opportunities with company objectives and translate them into clear product and technical requirements.
        • Manage stakeholder relationships across business and technical teams, ensuring the successful launch, adoption, and measurable impact of AI-powered products.
        • Develop a deep understanding of the firm’s businesses, products, processes, technology, and AI initiatives to inform future product strategy and design.

        Who we’re looking for

        • A bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in computer science, engineering, applied mathematics, or a related technical field, along with three to six years of relevant professional experience.
        • Demonstrated experience working on AI products—ideally including generative AI adoption, integration, or productization—combined with financial markets exposure (e.g., product management in institutional finance, prior trading or investment analysis, or building tools for front-office teams).
        • Solid product management skills: translating user needs into clear requirements, balancing competing priorities, and driving projects to completion.
        • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders across technical and non-technical domains.
        • A knack for solving open-ended problems and seeing how small details interrelate to impact the bigger picture (i.e., systems thinking).
        • An entrepreneurial mindset: comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment, with a willingness to experiment and iterate.
        • The expected annual base salary for this position is $185,000 to $230,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
